Would you like to discover one of Armenia’s most picturesque and fascinating regions in just three days? We invite you to explore Syunik — a land of ancient monasteries, impregnable fortresses, majestic mountains, and hidden natural wonders.
Itinerary
Day 1. Yerevan – Saint Katarine Church – Vahanavank – Baghaberd – Kapan
Departure from Yerevan to the Syunik region. The first stop is Saint Katarine, a unique 19th-century Greek Orthodox church located on a hill near the village of Kavart. The church is a rare testament to the Greek heritage of Syunik.
Continue to Vahanavank Monastery, founded in 911 AD and once an important spiritual center of the Syunik Kingdom.
The tour then proceeds to the ruins of Baghaberd Fortress, one of medieval Armenia’s most impregnable fortresses and the former capital of the Syunik Kingdom.
Overnight at a guesthouse in Kapan.
Day 2. Kapan – Mount Khustup – Tsavi (Mazra) Waterfall – Tatev
After breakfast, departure to Mount Khustup, one of the most famous and picturesque peaks of Syunik. Enjoy the stunning mountain scenery and discover the region’s breathtaking natural landscapes.
Along the way, visit Tsavi Waterfall, located 2 km west of the village of Tsav on a tributary of the Tsav River. The waterfall is also known as Mazra Waterfall, while locals call it “Chrchr.”
Transfer to the village of Tatev.
Overnight at a guesthouse.
Day 3. Tatev – Khndzoresk – Yerevan
After breakfast, visit the Tatev Monastery complex, one of the finest masterpieces of medieval Armenian architecture, dramatically situated on the edge of the deep Vorotan Gorge.
Continue to the village of Khndzoresk. Enjoy a walk across the famous swinging bridge and explore the unique cave settlement, where people lived in natural caves until the 20th century.
Return to Yerevan.
