Hidden Gems of Syunik

Baghaberd Fortress

Perched above the confluence of the Voghji and Geghi rivers, Baghaberd Fortress was one of medieval Armenia's strongest fortresses. Built in the 4th century, it became the capital of the Kingdom of Syunik in 1103. Surrounded by cliffs and deep gorges, it was considered nearly impregnable until its capture by the Seljuks in 1170. Vahanavank Monastery
